Did you know that having a healthy smile can help you have a more convenient experience with cancer treatment in San Francisco, California? Well, it’s true! Having strong and healthy teeth and gums can lower your risk of suffering from an infection or from dental side effects that could be associated with the treatment.

So, to help you have a better experience with your cancer treatment, we recommend working toward a pristine oral health by doing the following things:

-Visit your dentist: By dealing with dental issues before you begin your cancer treatment, you reduce your chances of experiencing dental side effects that are common for chemotherapy and radiation patients. Some treatments your dentist might offer include providing fluoride treatment, placing dental fillings, treating gum disease, and removing infected teeth.

-Brush regularly: Make sure to brush twice a day. As you brush, use an extra-soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Don’t forget to brush your tongue!

-Floss: Floss between your teeth at least once a day. Doing so will help remove plaque and food particles from the area. If your gums are sore or bleeding, be gentle and avoid flossing those areas. But, make sure to floss the rest of your teeth.

-Avoid using tobacco: Tobacco products are very harmful for your body, especially your mouth, so please do not use them. Also, stopping the use of tobacco may help your body heal faster.

-Rinse often: It’s recommended to rinse your mouth at least once a day. However, please use rinse that does not contain alcohol. Rinsing will help you deeply clean your smile and will help reduce your chances of having decay and infection. It will also protect your teeth from the acidic particles that live in vomit.
